Community leader, local business owner, and longtime resident fighting for a greener, fairer Bow East.
I am standing for election as a Green Party councillor for Bow East because this ward is not just where I work — it is where I have built my life, my businesses, and my deepest community connections over more than five years.
I run three businesses on Roman Road — Mono London Café, Al Mamun Travel & Tours, and Midpoint Café — and through these I have come to know the everyday hopes, struggles and aspirations of the people who live and work here.
I have watched this community weather austerity, a pandemic, a cost-of-living crisis, and a housing emergency, and I have seen too many of the people I care about left behind.
"In 2018, while canvassing in Wapping, I was brutally attacked with a three-foot iron bar. I needed 13 stitches and genuinely thought I was going to die. I stepped back from politics — but I never stopped serving my community."
Today, I return to electoral politics with the Green Party because the old politics of Tower Hamlets — the factionalism, the tribalism, the personality-driven machine politics — had always sat uncomfortably with me.
The Green Party is the natural home for someone who believes in environmental justice, genuine community empowerment, sustainable local economies, and transparency in government.
Stronger action on pollution from the A12, expanded cycling infrastructure, more trees, and community-led greening projects that give residents ownership of their local environment.
Lower business rates for small enterprises, better footfall through events and markets, and a council that actively champions its independent high streets.
Truly affordable council housing, stronger protections for private renters, and an end to the prioritisation of luxury developments over community need.
Regular surgeries, community meetings and listening sessions. A councillor who is genuinely accessible — not just at election time.
Youth services, mentoring programmes, and apprenticeship pathways that give the next generation of Bow East residents real opportunities to thrive.
Better social care, accessible community spaces, and targeted support for those who are too often invisible to the system.
Through my businesses on Roman Road, I am a visible, daily presence in the ward. My staff are local. My customers are my neighbours. I understand the pressures facing small businesses on our high streets — the rising rents, the lack of council support, the challenge of competing with out-of-town chains. I know what it takes to keep a local economy alive because I live it every single day.
A vibrant community café offering quality food and drink, serving as a neighbourhood meeting point on Roman Road.
A travel agency serving the Bangladeshi and wider South Asian diaspora with flights, Hajj & Umrah packages.
A local café supporting footfall on one of East London's most historic high streets.
Founded an orphanage and educational institution in Bangladesh supporting disadvantaged children with education, healthcare and shelter.
Charitable foundation providing humanitarian aid, disaster relief, education sponsorship and healthcare to vulnerable communities.
Over five years of engagement with local mosques, community centres, youth groups and residents' associations across Bow East ward.
Organised and led humanitarian aid responses following natural disasters in Bangladesh since 2011.
Tower Hamlets has been let down by the old parties for too long. Labour, Conservative, and others have had their chance — and too often, residents have been left with broken promises, political infighting, and a council that feels remote from the people it serves.
The Green Party offers something genuinely different: a politics rooted in honesty, sustainability, and community. We do not promise what we cannot deliver. We do not play the games of patronage and faction. We believe in a fairer, greener, more democratic future.
I have seen from the inside how personality-driven politics can corrode public trust. I experienced its worst consequences when I was attacked for simply knocking on doors and talking to residents. That experience taught me that the Green Party embodies the difference Tower Hamlets needs, and I am determined to bring it to Bow East.
